Completion of or concurrent enrollment in English Composition (C-ID ENGL 100)

This course covers the art and architecture of the following periods:

  1. Italian Renaissance and Mannerism
  2. 15th and 16th century art and architecture in Northern Europe
  3. Baroque and Rococo
  4. Neoclassicism, Romanticism, and Realism
  5. Major movements of the late 19th century including Impressionism and Post-Modernism
  6. Major movements of the 20th century, including Modernism and Post-Modernism
  7. Globalism in the 21st century

At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Identify, examine, and assess representative works of art and
    architecture from the Renaissance to the contemporary period employing appropriate art historical terminology
  2. Analyze, discuss, and differentiate works of art and architecture in terms of historical context and cultural values
  3. Analyze, discuss, and distinguish the roles of art, architecture, and the artist from the Renaissance to the contemporary period

  1. Written essays and/or research projects
  2. Essay component or an exam
